Posledný obyvatel

Among the films supported by the Jiří Menzel Foundation is the documentary Posledný obyvatel. It is a bachelor's thesis film by Barbara Aradská, a student of FAMU's Department of Documentary Filmmaking.
A documentary film charting the disintegration of family relationships, just as the neural connections in the brain of the last inhabitant of the family house keeping watch are disintegrating due to Alzheimer's disease.
The filmmakers believe the film can reach a wide range of people. It can be close to anyone who sometimes feels abandoned, anyone who needs to accept some kind of loss.
It speaks to younger generations through the filmmaker's coming to terms with leaving the family nest and emerging from broken homes. Older generations can relate to the film because of the sense of loneliness and the disease itself, which now affects over 180,000 people in the country. As well as for sharing the experience of living in intergenerational homes,
which are disappearing nowadays.
The documentary is shot in 16 mm technology, it is time-lapse, filmed over a period of 1 year in a family house in Komárno, Slovakia.
The whole project was introduced by the film's producer Ester Josefína Vandasová (photo).
