MASO
The Jiří Menzel Foundation has supported a request for funding for the film MASO. This is a graduation film from the Center for Audiovisual Studies (CAS) at FAMU. David Šourek will be the director. The film is an adaptation of the samizdat novel of the same name by Czech underground author Martin Harníček. It takes viewers into a bleak dystopia: Imagine a city where nothing new is created anymore. Things are dismantled for fuel so that people can warm up their meager portions of hard-earned food over a fire. This food is human flesh. Police officers walk the streets, killing people at random. They hand over their flesh to butchers at marketplaces, who sell it back to the people. The film's desperate antihero tries to escape from this environment.
The filmmakers will shoot the film on 16mm film in locations in southern Moravia and Poland.
